Why Perform Regular Body Composition Analysis?

Conducting regular body composition analysis is an important part of understanding and monitoring your health. Weight is an indicator that, together with other body measurements, can provide valuable insights into your physical status and help you achieve your health goals. Here are some benefits of conducting body composition analysis:

Conducting body composition analysis is, however, only part of the puzzle. Together with other parameters, such as body fat, muscle mass, and water balance, you get a holistic view that helps you build a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS

  • Water in the Body
  • Protein in Muscles
  • Minerals in the Body
  • Fat in the Body
2

ANALYSIS OF MUSCLES AND BODY FAT

This section indicates whether the individual is below, above, or within the normal range for

  • Weight
  • Skeletal Muscle Mass
  • Body Fat

Skeletal muscle mass is an important metric as it is closely linked to metabolism. An increase in skeletal muscle mass leads to higher calorie burning, even at rest.

This section highlights that an individual can have a normal weight but still be at risk of diseases if their body fat percentage is abnormally high.

3
WEIGHT ANALYSIS
  • BMI is a measure based on height and weight, which can be highly misleading if the individual is, for example, tall and muscular.
  • PBF (Percent Body Fat) is a measure that, in addition to height and weight, takes body fat into account and is a much more reliable indicator of whether the individual’s health is at risk.

MUSCLE/FAT ANALYSIS BY SECTIONS

  • Right arm
  • Left arm
  • Torso
  • Right leg
  • Left leg

The bars indicate whether the body is in balance or not. This can provide an explanation for pain and guidance on how training should be structured.

5
ECW RATIO ECW stands for extracellular water. The total water in the body consists of ECW + ICW (intracellular water). In cases of edema, there is more fluid outside the cell structure than normal.
6
BODY COMPOSITION HISTORY Multiple measurements provide clear indications of how the individual should:
  • Achieve set goals
  • Avoid metabolic diseases
  • Correct imbalances
  • Prevent injuries
7
INBODY SCORE A summary of the body composition analysis. The baseline score is 80 points. Excess fat and insufficient muscle result in deductions, while high muscle mass adds points.
  • Less than 70 – indicates insufficient muscle mass or overweight
  • 70-80 points – average/normal healthy range
  • 80-85 points – reflects healthy eating and regular exercise
  • More than 85 – typically very healthy or muscular

PHASE ANGLE (PhA)

Phase angle is an indicator of cellular health and integrity, reflecting the relationship between body cell mass and fat-free mass.

The relationship between phase angle and cellular health is almost linear. A low phase angle indicates the cells' inability to store energy and suggests a breakdown in the selective permeability of cellular membranes. A high phase angle corresponds to large amounts of intact cell membranes and body cell mass.

9
WEIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS
  • Target Weight
  • Total Change
  • Reduced Body Fat
  • Increased Muscle Mass
10
VISCERAL FAT This measurement indicates how much fat an individual has stored around their internal organs and is a critical metric for health risks. This fat produces toxic hormones that cause inflammation in the body. The more stored visceral fat, the greater the risk of diseases.
11

SUMMARY

  • Intracellular Water
  • Extracellular Water
  • Metabolism/Basal Metabolic Rate*
  • Visceral Fat

*
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy the body uses at rest. BMR is known as the body's metabolism and directly correlates to fat-free body mass. Each additional kilogram of weight increases BMR.

12
IMPEDANCE For an accurate body analysis, impedance values are studied in segments at various frequencies.

Track your progress, understand the results

Our advanced and market-leading device, InBody380, measures body weight, skeletal muscle mass, and body fat. It compares the latest eight measurements to identify changes over time.

It also measures key parameters such as ECW and phase angle.

ECW

ECW is a parameter used to measure water outside the cells. A high value may indicate issues such as edema or muscle inflammation.

Phase Angle

The phase angle is a value that reflects how healthy your cells are, which actually correlates with your biological age. A lifestyle number!
